Google joins social media race
by Frank Amponsah
The product, which started three weeks ago, is set to increase Google’s visibility on the use of User Generated Content (UGC) .
“We have about 175 million people using Gmail and all of them are connected to Google Buzz,” Google’s Country Public Relations Manager in Germany, Mr. Stefan Keuchel said during a presentation to an international group of journalists in their Hamburg offices.
He said Google Buzz will be a new experience to users adding that it is not as limited as Twitter when it comes to messaging.
“Buzz has none of twitter’s innumerable limitations but is more powerful,” he underscored.
With Buzz, users can upload pictures, share their views with others, connect to others sites such as Twitter, Flickr, and Google Reader to import stuff.
It is modeled around other social media networks such as Facebook, which major media outlets are now using to incorporate UGC in their journalistic work.
The PR Manager noted that the establishment of this social site is not to compete with Twitter and Face book, but to improve usage of UGC worldwide for our users.

Other Form of UGC
“Another form of our UGC is blogs, referring to google blogger, a free blog service” Mr. Keuchel disclosed.
He explained that blogging allows the user to do several things with affiliate programs: build an easy website, create multiple streams of income, and add value to the product by offering more information.
“You don’t need to be a webmaster to build one either. Sites like Blogger, allow you to build simple blogs that look good and are search engine friendly” Mr. Keuchel said.
Using the google blogger, users can write their own blogs on any issue that affects them or is of their interests and can open up the blog to others to leave their comments
He noted that the blogs generate discussions adding that this also plays the twin role of driving traffic to Google’s website.
Why Google Buzz?
The reason behind the move is to promote businesses world wide and also introduce Internet marketing gurus with techniques to make millions using the new net work Google Buzz.
The big boast for the establishment is to make money by giving directions to people to purchase items of their choice in shops.
A user can view and also select a delicious meal of their choice in a restaurant and also have a view of their menu list. More over a Google Buzz user can easily locate a place he or she is visiting not familiar with the directions.
The system also gives small scale business operators the chance to advertise on the site on a cheaper rate for rapid response.
Service improvement
Google Buzz also makes it easier for its users to create chat groups among a network of friends. This can be done by creating a list of already existing Gmail contacts or those that one comes across when crawling the web.
The chat groups are a good way of exchanging information and keeping abreast of news events as they happen.
